Basbousa simple

 Basbousa recipe for you:

Ingredients:

1 cup semolina

1 cup plain yogurt

1 cup sugar

1 cup desiccated coconut

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 tsp baking powder

1/4 cup milk

1/4 cup blanched almonds or your choice of nuts for garnish

1 tsp vanilla extract

Pinch of salt

For the Syrup:

1 cup sugar

1/2 cup water

1 tsp lemon juice

1 tsp rosewater or orange blossom water (optional)

Instructions:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish.

In a mixing bowl, combine semolina, sugar, yogurt, melted butter, desiccated coconut, baking powder, milk, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Mix until well combined.

Pour the batter into the greased baking dish and smooth the top.

Cut the batter into diamond or square shapes with a knife.

Place an almond or your choice of nuts on top of each piece.

Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-40 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

While the basbousa is baking, prepare the syrup. In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, and lemon juice. Bring to a boil and simmer for about 10 minutes until it slightly thickens. Add rosewater or orange blossom water if using.

Once the basbousa is out of the oven, immediately pour the syrup evenly over it.

Allow the basbousa to absorb the syrup and cool before serving.

Enjoy your homemade Basbousa!
